The Functions of the Council are:
- to develop broad policies and strategic plans including quality assurance policies;
- to approve the annual budget for UIC;
- to define the educational profile of UIC;
- to represent UIC as the occasion requires;
- to confer Awards;
- to establish an Academic Board, and
- to exercise delegated authority to establish and review and implement basic policies to govern and carry out UIC's mission
Professor Gus Guthrie - Chairman
Professor Guthrie, who holds doctoral degrees in chemistry from the
University of
London, is the principal of Gus Guthrie Consulting P/L, a company he established in March 1996 when he stepped down from the post of Vice-Chancellor and President of the
University of
Technology.
Sydney, a post he held since January 1988. Previous positions include President of the NSW Institute of Technology, Secretary General of the Royal Society of Chemistry (
London), and founding Dean of Science at
Griffith
University,
Brisbane. He has also held posts in the
UK at the
University of
Leicester and the
University of
Sussex.
Gus is an auditor for the New Zealand Universities Academic Audit Unit (since 1997), and for the Australian Universities Quality Agency (since 2001), and taken part in many audits for universities, both in
Australia and overseas. With Professors Sue Johnston and Roger King, Gus recently wrote the so-called Guthrie Report, a major review of the National Protocols on Higher Education Approvals (commissioned by the Australian Federal Government). He was commissioned by the Queensland State Government to chair the assessment committee that reviewed the proposed new private
Cairns
International
University. He was engaged by the SA State Government to chair the assessment panel for the application of the
Carnegie
Mellon
University to operate in that State.
He was a Ministerial appointee to the Council of the University of the
Sunshine
Coast, and a member of its Academic Board (1999-2005).
Professor Tom Valentine - Board Member
Professor Valentine the Chairman of the Salisbury Group. He is current Adjunct Professor of Finance at MGSM Macquarie.
Professor Valentine was formerly Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of Western Sydney, a position he held from 1995. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Commerce from 1995-1998.
Previous senior academic positions at both Australian and overseas universities include professorial appointments as Director of the Centre for Studies in Money, Banking and Finance at Macquarie University and as Director at the Centre of Applied Finance at the Kuringai College and University of Technology, Sydney.
He has been a member of the Board of the Australian Financial Institutions Commmission, Chairman of Audit Committee, Australian Financial Institutions Commission and a Member of the Board of the Financial Institutions Commission.
In addition he has senior advisor, and later consultant, to the Committee of Enquiry into the Australian Financial System (Campbell Committee Enquiry).
Professor Valentine has consulted to the Law Reform Commission on Bankruptcy and Managed Investments, was a consultant to the Royal Commission into the State Bank of South Australia.
His publications include books cover the subject areas of Money Formation and Interest Rates, Foreign Exchange Management and Financial Risk Management.
Mr Tim Delaney - Board Member
Tim Delaney holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the
University of
New South Wales and is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Practicing Accountant and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (formerly the Securities Institute of
Australia). In addition Tim holds a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from FinSia.
Tim has more than 20 years experience in providing corporate and personal financial advice gained whilst working for major accounting firms and multinational corporations. In particular, Tim worked in Coopers and Lybrand’s Corporate Finance practice (in both
Sydney and
London) for 8 years focusing on providing corporate finance advice to support major acquisitions, mergers and corporate restructures. Tim also worked as a Corporate Development Manager at Pioneer International Limited (a major Australian multinational building materials group) identifying and executing international mergers and acquisitions culminating in Hanson PLC’s friendly acquisition of Pioneer in 2000 for $4 billion. At the time this was the largest ever acquisition of its type in
Australia.
Tim is a director of StructuredWealth Pty Ltd a boutique advisory firm specialising in providing personal financial planning advice and strategies. Tim also provides corporate finance advice to businesses undertaking major financial transactions and infrastructure schemes.
Tim is guest lecturer and co-ordinator of Mergers and Acquisitions at The University of Technology Sydney. He has also lectured in Mergers and Acquisitions at
University of
Western Sydney.
Professor Bill Ticehurst
Member
Professor Bill Ticehurst is a highly regarded curriculum designer and quality consultant. Bill was formerly the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business at the University of Technology, Sydney and prior to this, Head of the Department of Communication Studies at Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education. He holds a Doctorate in Education, and a Masters Degree from Macquarie University; a Masters Degree from Sydney University; and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of NSW. He is an Honorary Associate of the School of Management at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Bill has written many books, journal articles, and conference papers in the management, communication and education fields. He has been a supervisor and an examiner for a number of PhD theses, and is also a Past President of the Australian Communication Association. He is a member of the editorial review committee of the Australian Journal of
Communication.
He has been Chair, Board of Studies, Business Program, at Taylor's College Kuala Lumpur; Chair of the Board of Examiners at the International Business and Management Education Centre in Singapore; and Chair of the Academic Board at Insearch Sydney. He has developed a number of international business degree programs in conjunction
with Reims Management School, France, the University of Shanghai, and the International Business and Management Education Centre in Singapore.
