Graduate ProfileThe body of knowledge of the Bachelor of Accounting is oriented to graduating students being eligible to be registered as Associate Members of the National Institute of Accountants. The professional job-related core of this body of knowledge comprises Accounting Systems and Processes, Financial Accounting, Professional and Regulatory Processes, Management Accounting, Accounting Theory, Finance, Auditing, Organisational Functioning, Commercial and Corporations Law, Taxation, Information Systems Design and Development, Economics, and Quantitative Methods. A body of knowledge comprising the business and related social environment covers Business Economics, Business Communication, Critical Thinking, Interpersonal Dynamics in Business Organization, Dimensions of the Knowledge Society, and the Creative Culture by which innovation drives economic advantage. Recognition by an Authorised BodyCPA (Australia) declines to recognize a higher education degree until it is able to assess the standard of graduates in practice. However, the degree has been designed in accordance with the academic requirements for CPA (Australia) recognition (see 2.11) in order that graduates hopefully will be eligible for CPA membership. However, the degree meets the requirements of the NIA for associate membership and as such meets the requirements of DIAC for migrants to practise as accountants in Australia. AIMS OF THE COURSES
Diploma of Business (1-Year Course)
This course may be a stand alone one year higher education Diploma-level course, or as an exit point after one year of study in either the Associate Degree of Business or the Bachelor of Business. In addition, graduates of the course may articulate directly into either the Associate Degree of Business or the Bachelor of Business with one year of advanced standing toward the degrees. This course aims to develop foundation knowledge and skills essential to operating successfully within a business milieu.
The goals of this course are to develop:
· Fundamental knowledge of general principles and applications of a core range of business skills and knowledge
· Provision of employment skills that will provide a broad-based entry point into a range of professional Business occupations and/or the articulation into the Associate Degree in Business;
· The facilitation of life-long learning.
· Basic accounting principles and practice including
- the income statement
- the balance sheet
- the accounting structure
- the accounting cycle
· Foundational management theories and principles including
- elements of business organization
- the management role
- motivational factors in the workplace
- basic human resource requirements

Associate Degree in Business (2-Year Course)
This course may be a stand alone two year Associate Degree of Business or it may serve as an exit point after two years of study in the Bachelor of Business. In addition, students who have completed the Diploma of Business may automatically articulate into the Associate Degree of Business with year advanced standing. Building upon the foundation units in the Diploma of Business, this course aims to develop specialist skills in accounting, management or human resources.
The learning goals of this course are to develop:
· Understanding and interpretation of key business concepts and theories and their application in the relevant technical, social and cultural contexts;
· Development of a broad-based, multi-disciplinary conceptual and theoretical understanding within the Business discipline;
· Skills in interpersonal communication
· Provision of employment skills that will provide an entry point into a range of professional Business occupations;
· The facilitation of life-long learning.
Bachelor of Business (3-Year Course)
The Bachelor of Business aims to develop the knowledge and skills of business management relevant to the assumption of entry-level management in a business enterprise including the control and coordination of work tasks.
The learning goals of this course are to develop:
· Understanding and interpretation of a range of accounting, human resource and management concepts and theories and their application in the relevant technical, social and cultural contexts;
· Development of a broad-based, multi-disciplinary conceptual and theoretical understanding within the Business discipline;
· Ability to access, interpret, comprehend and evaluate research and information;
· The capacity for critical thinking by way of effective written and oral forms of communication
· The capacity to integrate and synthesise knowledge from different disciplines to solve problems in business settings, with a demonstrated awareness of ethical and social responsibility
